Why we love it.
Two words: Old World. The gorgeous ornate filigree work in these pieces is a dying art. Generally the way this is accomplished is that tiny spooled pieces of thin wire (which itself is often handmade) are inserted into bent wire forms and teased into place, then the piece is torched to solder everything into place. Mima has designed this collection and specializes in producing the filigree inserts while Ryan (proprietor of Meriken Metals) fabricates the tunnels and inlays the filigree. While filigree of similar styles is seen from just a few other producers of body jewelry, Ryan and Mima have presented us with original ideas and fresh takes on the old world technique. Keep your eyes open for a new filigree collection in 2014.
